GarageBand adds Chinese instruments following Tim Cook's Beijing visit

GarageBand is getting a host of new Chinese instruments. As of today, Apple's music-creation app for Macs and iOS devices plays host to a virtual pipa, erhu and Chinese percussion, along with 300 Chinese music loops.
"By adding classic Chinese instruments and new Live Loop templates, the new GarageBand app makes it fun and easy to make Chinese-inspired music right on your iPhone, iPad or Mac," Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of product marketing said in a statement.
Singaporean artist JJ Lin posted a video on YouTube (embedded above) that shows him and Apple CEO Tim Cook toying around with the new software.
The update also adds the power to share music to Chinese social networks QQ and Youku, in the latest sign that Apple is serious about courting the Chinese market. The new features to GarageBand come as Tim Cook visits China, meeting with the boss of Didi Chuxing, a Chinese taxi company in whichApple recently invested $1 billion.
